Information is power. We at Chelsea Fertility NYC feel that our patients need to be informed and empowered. Navigating the family building landscape is complex and confusing at times. Our patients form the simplest issue to the most complex, and they are all entitled to transparent, comprehensible explanations about their care and the alternatives to their management.
We feel that our patients should always be given a choice and not be restricted in their options. Education is paramount in being able to understand the choices available to you as a fertility patient and in making the best decision for your care. Making sure that our patients are educated is our first priority, and doing so in a dignified, respectful manner is paramount.
All patients are vulnerable and susceptible to misinformation and disinformation. Unfortunately, the fertility field is fraught with an abundance of case studies extrapolated to standard operating policy in some centers making quality of care an issue for some patients to struggle with unnecessarily complex cases involving surrogates and third party donors. As for the LGBTQ community, there is a fair amount of urban legend associated modern family building. This increases the stress for both doctor and patient. Information dissemination is key, especially in these situations. A safe, comfortable environment is necessary.
Our best strategy is to work closely and openly with our patients, respecting their needs, and to serve them in the manner they wish to be treated. Family building should be an exciting time, filled with hope for the future.
