Chelsea Fertility NYC Launches Non-Profit for LGBTQ+ Family-Building

by Chelsea Fertility NYCPosted in LGBTQ Family BuildingJuly 30th, 2021

At Chelsea Fertility NYC, we believe that families are defined by the deeply loving bonds and common values that two or more people share. Equality has always been one of the cornerstones of our practice and we are proud to provide LGBTQ+ families with access to all forms of fertility care. As part of our commitment to helping all people achieve their dreams of becoming a parent, we are excited to announce the launch of our non-profit organization, Chelsea Family Foundation (CFF)!

What is the Chelsea Family Foundation (CFF)?

CFF is an educational organization that promotes equality, equity, and freedom in parenting. Our mission is to connect members of the LGBTQ+ community with the resources they need to start or grow their families. This includes professional help regarding third-party reproduction, legal assistance, adoption, genetic counseling, and more. We also want to ensure that all individuals and couples, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, have open access to the fertility technologies and techniques they need.

“The Chelsea Family Foundation is an essential resource for third party and same-sex reproduction.,” says Dr. Paul Gindoff, a Co-founder of CFF. “Our goal is to empower individuals by education and access to resources availing themselves of 21st-century technology to achieve their family-building dreams.”

Fertility Options for LGBTQ+ Families

Thanks to assisted reproductive technology, LGBTQ+ couples and individuals have a wide range of options to choose from for their family-building needs. Some of the most common fertility treatments available include in vitro fertilization (IVF) and (intrauterine insemination (IUI), both of which make conception possible whether you’re using your own gametes or egg/sperm from a donor.

For couples who have both eggs and uteruses, reciprocal IVF is another option. In reciprocal IVF, one partner provides the eggs that are used to create an embryo. The eggs are retrieved, combined with sperm from a known or anonymous donor, and the resulting embryo is transferred into the other partner’s uterus. Not only is this technique useful in cases where one partner has a medical issue that prohibits them from conceiving or sustaining a pregnancy, but it also makes it possible for both partners to be involved in the conception and birth of the child.

LGBTQ+ Family-Building and Third-Party Reproduction

Third-party reproduction also plays an important role in LGBTQ+ family-building. In addition to donor sperm, many LGBTQ+ couples and individuals rely on egg donationand/or gestational surrogacy to have a child. In all forms of third-party reproduction, there are legal and logistical factors that come into play. This is especially true for egg donation and gestational surrogacy, in which schedules must be coordinated, medical evaluations need to take place, and contracts need to be drafted. Throughout the journey, your medical team will have to connect with legal professionals, agencies, as well as everyone involved (intended parents, surrogates, and donors).

One of the ways that CFF assists with third-party reproduction arrangements is through our extensive experience and partnerships with various third-party reproduction professionals. Our guidance and network can help make the entire process as streamlined as possible so that you can focus on what’s most important – the growth of your family.
