We bill health insurance where the patient has coverage that applies; where not, the visit is offered at no charge as a courtesy first visit or second opinion. Bring what you already have — if you arrive at your first consultation with recent results already in hand, we generally won't repeat them, we'll use them to move you toward treatment.
We do not screen patients out
At Chelsea Fertility NYC, we do not accept or deny patients for treatment based on likelihood of success. This is what we mean by open access. Our philosophy of clinical management is to not restrict poor responders and failed prior cycle patients from entering into their IVF programs — rather than limiting them to donor egg cycles only.
That position matters when you are comparing programs. A comparison of clinic success rates may not be meaningful, because patient medical characteristics, treatment approaches, and entry criteria (FSH, AMH) for ART may vary from clinic to clinic. We encourage patients to use other types of criteria when comparing treatment centers.

What the visit covers
Your first visit is a conversation with one of our reproductive endocrinologists — Dr. Gindoff or Dr. Hartog. We review your medical, family, and reproductive history, discuss your goals, perform a baseline ultrasound when appropriate, and outline the diagnostic workup that fits your situation. You leave with a clear plan, not a sales pitch.
This first visit with our medical team involves a discussion of your medical case to-date, related prognosis, and recommendations. Any further evaluation, treatment, or appointments are not included in this free consult / second opinion offer. To save time on the day, you can complete our new patient forms before you arrive.
What to bring
We recommend that you bring any previous relevant medical records or test results. The more of your history you can put in front of us, the more of the visit can be spent on what to do next. Useful items include:
- Hormone and infectious disease blood testing for both partners
- A recent semen analysis
- Transvaginal ultrasound reports, including antral follicle count
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) results, if your tubes have been checked
- Cycle summaries from any previous IUI or IVF treatment
- Your insurance card, so our billing team can verify your benefits
A boutique setting, not a volume practice

If previous cycles have not worked
An IUI failure does not make the patient a poorer prognosis for IVF to succeed. Most practices, including ours, recommend moving to IVF after three unsuccessful IUI cycles with a favorable protocol. If you are weighing that step, see IVF vs IUI.
