Battery Park City is the one neighborhood on this list with no subway station inside it. Every trip uptown begins on foot, walking east across West Street to the nearest line, and that first leg is what makes the journey to our Murray Hill office longer than the map suggests. Rather than gloss over it, this page sets out the routes as they actually work, including what the ferry can and cannot do for you.
Walking east first, then heading uptown
From the southern end of the neighborhood, the closest station is Rector Street. From there the R or W runs up Broadway to 34th Street–Herald Square, leaving a walk east along 34th or 35th Street to Park Avenue. From the northern end near Chambers Street, the 1, 2 and 3 are the nearest options: the 2 or 3 express to 14th Street, then a transfer to the uptown 6, puts you at 33rd Street and Park.
A third route worth knowing is the 1 to Times Square–42nd Street, then the S shuttle or the 7 one stop east to Grand Central, then five blocks south on Park Avenue. It involves a transfer but keeps the outdoor walking short, which can matter in January.
The ferry terminal at Brookfield Place is convenient for New Jersey commuting, but it does not help for this trip — those routes run west across the Hudson, not north up Manhattan. Counting the walk east, plan on roughly thirty-five to forty-five minutes, and treat that as an estimate rather than a promise.
